What is Sciatica?

The sciatic nerve runs from the hips down to the knees and pain can arise from the fibers in the sciatic nerve being compressed. This pain and numbness that radiates from the hip/lower back and extends down the leg is known as sciatica. Quite often, the pressure is caused by a herniated disc and/or degenerative changes of the spine, and will be worse after prolonged sitting, standing, or even walking.

Anyone can get sciatica and there are various treatments options, depending on the severity of the symptoms and the underlying cause. Physical therapy can be used to help alleviate the pain but in some more extreme cases in which you have loss of strength associated with the pain, surgery may be required.

Our therapists have extensive experience treating those with sciatic nerve pain. We can develop custom treatments designed to ensure optimal symptom relief as quickly as possible. Each treatment plan is tailored to utilize advanced techniques and provide long-lasting and highly effective relief.
